Leader of UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch has evoked reactions from Nigerians after she shared her experience with the Nigerian police.
Kemi Badenoch while speaking in an interview with The FP on the causes of the challenges faced by the British police in accomplishing some tasks, described her experience with the Nigerian police as negative, compared to her experience with the British police which, was rather positive.
The Nigerian born British citizen accused the Nigerian police of robbing the people they should protect, narrating an encounter once with her brother, whom she said the Nigerian police stole his shoes and watch.
When asked if she trusted the British police, Kemi said; “I do, but, you remember my experience with the Nigerian police was very negative, and coming to the UK, my first experience with the police was very positive. Yea the police in Nigeria would rob us.

“So when people say I have this bad experience with the police because I’m black and they are white, and I’m like what? You know I remember the police stole my brother’s shoes and his watch,” she said.
Kemi Badenoch amplified the heat when she continued, describing the level of pauperization in Nigeria, which prompts people to do all sort of things, and with a gun in hand, it means providing people with the license to intimidate others (speaking of the police).
“It’s a very poor country, so people do all sort of things, and giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate. But that’s not the bar we should use for British police.
“My experience (with the British police) was so positive when I was burgled for example, the police were there, very helpful, they eventually caught the person,” she said.
She emphasized that the police (referring to the British police) are the first line of defense for everything, however, they have been given too much to do, which is the reason the police finds it difficult to do the big things.
Nigerians have reacted differently to what she said, some condemning it, and saying she should not have spoken down on her country the way she did, that she is selling a bad image of the country to the world. While some others have applauded her boldness towards uttering the truth as it is.
