Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North Constituency, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabampa Road, Onitsha, while returning home for Christmas celebrations. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the abduction and launched an operation for his rescue.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers withdrew ₦100 million from Azuka’s account before tragically killing him on December 26, 2024. He was reportedly shot twice in the head.
The Lawmaker’s decomposed body was later found along River Niger Bridge as reported earlier by Igbo Tv.
As investigations are ongoing, the Police have apprehended six suspects, all under 30 years old.

Among the nabbed suspects is a female nurse in Asaba, alleged to have assisted in withdrawing the ransom. Her pharmacy has been sealed by law enforcement.
A native doctor also suspected of preparing charms for the gang, was arrested. Reports suggest that the gang’s leader was living with the native doctor inside his shrine in Asaba.
Five of the six arrested suspects are from Asaba, while one is from Oba.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the gang had a pattern of killing their victims even after collecting ransom payments. They allegedly confessed to never releasing hostages alive.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has vowed to ensure that all those involved face justice. The case has heightened concerns over insecurity in Anambra, particularly following a series of high-profile kidnappings and killings in the region.
Authorities continue to investigate potential accomplices and have urged residents to report any suspicious activities.
