The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, has reportedly ordered a ban on church services held in residential buildings within the emirate, sparking concerns among the Christian community.
The decision follows complaints from local residents, which prompted the Emir to establish a special investigative committee to look into the matter.
The committee reportedly discovered that a church in Yadi Quarters, Rano town, had been conducting worship services in a private residence without proper authorization.
A statement from Alhaji Umar Isa Sarki, the secretary of the investigative committee, confirmed that multiple petitions had been received regarding the legality of such gatherings.

“Following our findings, His Royal Highness has directed that all church services in residential buildings be stopped immediately to maintain public order,” he stated.
While Rano Emirate is home to at least 27 legally recognized churches where Christian worshippers practice their faith without interference, concerns arose over religious gatherings taking place in private homes.
According to sources, the Emir’s directive is aimed at ensuring compliance with zoning laws and avoiding potential conflicts between communities.
However, the ban has drawn mixed reactions, with some Christian leaders expressing unease over the decision. The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kano State has yet to issue an official response regarding the development.
