For years tensions between South Africa and Nigeria have surfaced in various forms – xenophobic violence, to social media rivalry, beauty pageant controversy, economic and cultural influence, human right abuses, etc.
However, there’s good news- South Africa has relaxed its visa rules for Nigerian citizens, making it easier for Nigerians to travel to the country. Here are some things to be considered –

New rules
- Visa-free entry: Nigerian citizens can enter South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days.
- Simplified application process: Applicants can apply for a visa without submitting their passport.
- Five-year multiple-entry visas: Qualifying Nigerian business people can apply for a visa that allows them to enter and exit South Africa multiple times within five years.
What else do applicants need to know?
- Applicants must still submit certified copies of their passport’s bio page.
- Applicants must submit their passport for visa verification and confirmation after their visa is approved.
- Applicants may need to provide other documents, such as:
- Proof of financial status
- A letter of invitation from a South African company
- A health practitioner’s signature and vaccine information
- A clinic or health immunization card for children 10 years and below
While this hasn’t turned out to stir up a lot of conversation online, some of the reasons for this move may be tied to –
