The secessionist agitator and self appointed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) popularly known as Simon Ekpa, has again been arrested in Finland on suspicions of funding terrorism, a report from several sources confirms.

Recall that Simon Ekpa was apprehended by the Finland authorities in 2023 for a fundraising fraud. However, this time, the charge is not of fraud.

Simon Ekpa was arrested alongside four others on charges of inciting violence with terrorism intent.

According to reports, the Finnish-Nigerian was detained in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court.

Simon Ekpa arraigned by the Finnish Police

In a statement published by the Finnish Central Criminal Police on Thursday which confirmed the arrests, Ekpa and others were remanded for allegedly financing terrorism, and spearheading violent actions against civilians and authorities in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.

“The detention demands are related to a preliminary investigation in which a Finnish citizen of Nigerian descent, born in the 1980s, is suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent,” says the police.

All these was done from Finland, through his social media platforms.

“The man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels,” says Otto Hiltunen, the Detective Chief Inspector.

Simon and the other suspects are hence charged for financing and encouraging terrorism.
