On Friday, March 28, 2025, there was an outburst that led to an exchange of gunfire between a group of Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) members and security officials in the Wuse area of Abuja.
According to reports, the Shiite IMN members were conducting their Quds procession, which is usually done globally every last Friday of Ramadan, in solidarity with Palestine, which has been under siege by Israeli forces for years now.
Upon their arrival at Banex roundabout in Wuse 2, they met with security officials who refused them passage and halted their procession, which provoked the members into hauling stones at the soldiers.

The soldiers struck back at them with gunshots. One of the leaders of the procession, Jafaar Gali, told Premium Times that many of their members have been killed or injured.

“We were around Zenith Bank at Banex when some soldiers came to stop us,” he said, confessing that they also hurled stones at the soldiers.
Muhammad, another Shiite member, also told Premium Times that the bodies of some of their members killed have been taken to Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
He said the soldiers and the police used excessive force to disperse them, that some people have been arrested, including some passersby who did not participate in the procession.
