The former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has lambasted the son of the President of Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu, for sharing cooked rice to Arewa people, calling it a “humiliation.”
There have been reports and videos circulating on the internet of Seyi Tinubu through his charity foundation NOELLA, distributing well-packaged, cooked food in the northern part of Nigeria for the Ramadan fast iftar.
In a video that went viral last week, the president’s son was seen bragging about his father being the best president in the history of Nigeria and about his food sharing outreach to the Arewa people in the North as they observe the Ramadan fast.
The former governor of Jigawa State has expressed his displeasure over such politically inspired outreach, saying it is a humiliation to the Arewans. Why should Seyi Tinubu use food to seek political favors from the North?

“You will hear people saying the Arewa is known for bravery and integrity, yet Tinubu is going to Sokoto and Kano, handing out cooked rice to our people. This is total humiliation. Is this how to govern or promote good governance?
“Is this what we have been subjected to? This is the height of humiliation, and they know it. Arewa, which produced great leaders like Aminu Kano, Sardauna (Sir Ahmadu Bello), Tafawa Balewa, and many other prominent figures, is now being reduced to a region where people are only given cooked rice,” he said.
Lamido urged Northerners to stay united and resist such humiliation, saying no one must be allowed to come from outside and belittle them.
“However, it is up to us to unite and resist this humiliation or fold our hands and allow an outsider to come to our region and belittle us. It is time to stand for what is right; if we stay on the right track in this country, no one can ever defeat us,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu’s iftar feeding program has met lots of criticisms from several Nigerians, with many seeing it as a move to win the Northerners that have been plagued by his father’s policies for his father.
Others have also argued that Seyi Tinubu is creating a pathway for his own political ambitions.
