Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, 36, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Riyadh after spending nearly two decades in a coma following a car accident in London in 2005.
Born in April 1990, Al-Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khalid bin Talal Al Saud and grandson of Prince Talal. At just 15, while training at a military academy in London, he suffered a severe head injury and internal bleeding during the crash.
Following the accident, he was transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City, where he remained on life support and never regained consciousness.

Over the years, faint signs (which included a flicker of a finger and a slight head turn) offered moments of hope. His father, Prince Khalid, fought against medical advice to end life support, refusing to give up on his son’s recovery.
On social media platform X, Prince Khalid shared his grief: “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree… we mourn our beloved son… may Allah have mercy on him.”
Funeral prayers were held on July 20, with men praying at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque and women at King Faisal Specialist Hospital Mosque in Riyadh.
Known affectionately as the “Sleeping Prince,” his story touched many across the Arab world and beyond. His prolonged struggle became a symbol of unwavering parental love, faith, and resilience in the face of impossible odds.
