President Bola Tinubu has successfully brokered peace between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, bringing an end to the prolonged political crisis in the state.

The breakthrough came during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday night. Also in attendance were Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule and other lawmakers. Photos and videos from the meeting showed all parties smiling and exchanging pleasantries, signaling a major shift from months of bitter rivalry.

The crisis, which had led to President Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, and suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state assembly, now appears resolved. A retired naval officer, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), was appointed sole administrator at the time.
