Lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have thrown their full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to contest again in 2027. The call followed a motion led by House Leader Major Jack and backed by 25 other members, who said the president has shown real commitment to the state’s growth.
They credited Tinubu for giving Rivers people key federal appointments and pushing major projects like the Bonny-Bodo Road and the East-West Road.
According to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the increased revenue to states from Tinubu’s economic policies has also helped governments meet basic needs, including salaries. He described the president as a “caring father” who has kept his promises to the state.

The House later passed a vote of confidence in Tinubu and instructed members to start mobilising their constituents for his Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of 2027.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has also ordered an investigation into a petition accusing Renaissance Africa Energy Company of ignoring an oil spill that severely damaged farmlands and water in B-Dere, Gokana LGA. The petition, signed by estate valuer Hamilton Odom, claims the May 7, 2025 spill from the Ogale-Bomu pipeline was caused by equipment failure.
Reports from the Ministry of Environment, NOSDRA, and community representatives said the spill destroyed vegetation, polluted groundwater, harmed livelihoods, and caused serious stress for residents. The case has been forwarded to the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions for further action.
