The Political Wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra otherwise referred to as IPOB-PW, has appealed with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to release Maazi Nnamdi Kanu as a Christmas package to Ndigbo.
In a statement endorsed by Nwachukwu Emereonye and released on December 21, 2024, the IPOB branch which has its focus on advocating for national autonomy, pleaded with Tinubu that the release of Nnamdi Kanu would be a valuable gift as they mark the birth of Jesus Christ.
They highlighted the importance of forgiveness as taught by Jesus Christ whose birth, Christians celebrate during this period, urging the president to apply the same teaching.
“The act of releasing Nnamdi Kanu during this festive season would not only be a valuable gift but also an embodiment of the teachings of Christ Jesus, whose birth we commemorate.
“Jesus advocated for forgiveness, hence, the president is urged to contemplate this compassionate act during this period,” the statement reads.

The group also explained to the President that Nnamdi Kanu is willing to embrace peace and align with the Nigerian Government.
Nnamdi Kanu had been on the Federal Government’s wanted list since the early period of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, for his secession ideals which were socially unacceptable.
He is alleged to have incited violence and terrorism and refusing to comply with Nigerian Government orders and appeal.
He was first arrested in 2015, and later while on the run, was extradited from Kenya by the Kenyan authorities back to Nigeria, where he has since been in detention and facing terrorism charges at the Federal High Court Abuja.
Igbo Tv had earlier reported that Bianca Ojukwu, the Wife of former secession instigator and leader of Biafra, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu during the 13th memorial of her husband in Owerri, Imo State, promised the people of Southeastern geopolitical zone that she would make sure Nnamdi Kanu is released by President Tinubu.
Bianca Ojukwu who is currently serving as a Minister of State for Foreign Affairs under the Tinubu-led administration during the event, frowned at the perpetrators of insecurity and violence in the Southeast of Nigeria, and promised to work tirelessly for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
She stated that President Tinubu understands the importance of Kanu’s release. That it would expose the masqueraders behind the violence and help restore order. “I will do whatever it takes to ensure His Excellency (Tinubu) grants this request,” she said.
“The release of Nnamdi Kanu is paramount to separating genuine freedom fighters from criminals causing mayhem in the South-east. Our people face existential threats, and we must act to restore peace,” Mrs Ojukwu had stated.
