The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been voted the number three most corrupt leader in the world for 2024, by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

Tinubu who became President of Nigeria after the 2023 General Elections was listed among the top five most corrupt leaders in the world.

The first on the list is President of Kenya, William Ruto, followed by former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and then Tinubu, then former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, and Indian businessman Gautam Adani.

The Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) since its establishment in 2006, undertakes this task every year, by nominating readers, journalists worldwide, the Person of the Year judges and others in the OCCRP global network to vote.

Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu made it to the third position, after an inauspicious administration so far since becoming president.

From past allegations of drug related crimes, to implausible wealth acquisition, and then to unsympathetic administrative policies including fuel subsidy removal without manageable substitutes, which has plunged Nigerians into dire distress of economic hardship with inflation. Tinubu seems to be undaunted.

His administration has continued to also make redundant acquisitions for the political elites, even borrowing large sums from the World Bank for continuous untransparent implementations.

Also, during the nationwide protests, youths of Nigeria were unjustly arrested including minors, while the president holidayed in the UK.

Though many have argued that Nigerians should have patience and wait, as Tinubu is trying to balance up the ills of past administrations.
