The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis, 88, remains in critical condition as he continues treatment for kidney failure and respiratory complications at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

Medical reports indicate early-stage kidney failure alongside pneumonia and a complex lung infection.

Despite concerns about his health, Vatican officials shared an update this morning stating that the Pope had a restful night and was stable after attending Mass on Sunday.

He has now spent 11 days in the hospital, marking his longest hospitalization since becoming the leader of the Catholic Church in 2013.

Pope Francis was admitted on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. While doctors have managed to stabilize his respiratory condition, he remains on high-flow oxygen support.

His platelet count, initially a concern, has remained stable, but his overall prognosis is still uncertain as doctors monitor his response to treatment.

Expressing gratitude from his hospital bed, Pope Francis acknowledged the medical team and well-wishers worldwide for their prayers.

“I am continuing my treatment with confidence, knowing that rest is also part of the healing process,” he wrote in a statement.
