The Imo State Police Command says it has stepped up security across the state ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit.

In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said police officers, working with other security agencies, have been deployed to ensure the president’s engagements in the state are held without incident.

He noted that security personnel are stationed at all entry and exit points, as well as along the route from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to Owerri metropolis and designated venues across local government areas.

“Route lining and robust security coverage have been activated at all venues of the presidential engagements,” Okoye said. “Operation Show of Force and visibility patrols are ongoing across the three senatorial districts to reassure residents and deter criminal elements.”

Traffic management has also been strengthened. The police, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, have deployed officers to traffic-prone areas to ensure a smooth flow of movement in Owerri and beyond.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assured residents and visitors of their safety, urging them to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and comply with traffic diversions put in place for the visit.

He warned that any attempts to disrupt peace would be met with swift action. “Anyone caught engaging in acts capable of undermining security will be decisively dealt with,” the statement read.

The Command also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or emergency hotlines.

President Tinubu will be visiting Imo State on September 30, to commission several completed projects under the leadership of Hope Uzodinma. The projects include – The new Asumpta flyover – Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Center – Imo Digital Learning Center – New Imo Concorde Hilton Hotel and others.
