In a world where women were once believed to belong to the kitchen, where even attaining education was a thing of the very wealthy families, who had enough resources to spare to think of sending their female children to school.
Today, the same world is where women are competing with men to make great landslides. In fact, most men have been relegated to the kitchen, who could not hold remain remain in the competition.
In the days of old, there were valorous women, but one could easily count the heads. However, in today’s world, one wouldn’t even attempt counting.
Among today’s gallant women, stands Olanike Balogun, born in Kaduna State, but a native of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State.

With determination to be in public service, she joined the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) in 2002, and grew gradually her ranks.
She soon earned an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, and later a Master’s in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and a Pilot Certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, where she was trained on aircraft flying.
Olanike Balogun has successfully completed her flying training, and has been licensed a certified pilot for the Nigerian Customs Services. The first female pilot of the Customs Airwing, and a Deputy Superintendent of Customs.
She is truly a heroine. An inspiration for the girl child, and a proof that women if allowed the opportunity, can do as much as men.
The Nigerian Customs Service where she got the full support are proud of her achievement. Commending her for reaching such milestone was the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who saw her achievement as an evidence of determination and institutional support, and the service’s commitment to encouraging talent and innovation.
Balogun speaking on her journey and achievement, and why she is determined to serve in the NCS said; “Staying in the Service was tough, but I was determined to contribute to public service and fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot.”
She also hopes her journey would motivate young Nigerian women to continue chasing their dreams and overcome barriers.
