A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu Prosper (BY/24B/2451), has brought new life to a public primary school in Bayelsa State after witnessing pupils studying under the rain in dilapidated classrooms.

Assigned to the Nigeria Police Force in Yenagoa, Brown initially planned to carry out an anti-cultism campaign as his community development project. However, a visit to Community Primary School, Swali, changed everything.

There, he saw children sitting in classrooms with broken roofs, exposed ceilings, and no doors or windows, completely vulnerable to the rain. The sight deeply moved him.

Determined to make a difference, Brown met with the school authorities and rallied support from kind-hearted individuals. His efforts led to the full renovation of four classroom blocks, including the administrative office.

The project included:

  • New roofing and PVC ceilings
  • Installation of 24 windows and 9 doors
  • Complete repainting of the school buildings

What was once a flooded, forgotten school has now become a safe and vibrant space for learning. Pupils who used to sit in puddles now study in comfort, thanks to the selfless action of one corps member who chose compassion over convenience.
