~ NPFL 24/25: Mustapha Adams on Target as Shooting Stars return to winning ways
Mustapha Adams emerged the hero of the rainy Monday evening at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan as his solitary strike earned Shooting Stars a slim victory over Katsina United in a Matchday eight fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, to end their 4 game winless run and ease pressure on the heavily criticized coach Gbenga Ogunbote.
The Oluyole Warriors playing in front of their fans again, desperately in need of a win after going winless without scoring a single goal in the last four games, had the game under control from the blast of the whistle creating many scoring chances but were yet again, undone by poor finishing.
Coach Gbenga Ogunbote had made notable changes in the attack, throwing Mustapha Adams into the starting line up for the very first time this season, to combine with Samuel Ayanrinde up front.
Despite the heavy rain which started later in the game, the homers continued to dominate and swooped on the Chanji Boys but their efforts did not yield results as they failed to find the breakthrough until the end of the first half.

After the break, the Ogunbote tutored Warriors came into the second half more determined and motivated to get the much needed goal, piling more pressure on the visitors. However, it was the visitors who nearly got the opener, but goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal pulled a stunning save to keep the Oluyole Warriors in the game.
Katsina United’s resistance was broken in the 67th minute, when Mustapha Adams’ long range shot took a slight deflection, beating the visitors’ goalie, to break the deadlock and send the stadium into frenzy.
Mustapha’s goal turned out to be the only goal of the match, as both sides’ efforts to further hit the target, proved abortive till the end of the game.
The win, second of the season for the Shooting Stars, has increased their points to nine from eight matches and the Ibadan soccer lords will remain at home next weekend for a Matchday nine clash against Akwa United of Uyo.
