Nnamdi Kanu Writes Trump, Claims There is 'Hidden Genocide' Against Igbo Christians in the South East

Detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has written a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, appealing for urgent international intervention over what he described as a “hidden genocide” against Christians in Eastern Nigeria.

In the four-page letter dated November 6, 2025, and sent through his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu claimed that Nigerian security forces have committed mass killings against Igbo Christians under the guise of counterterrorism.

Kanu, currently held by the Department of State Services (DSS), cited several incidents (including the 2016 Nkpor massacre, the 2017 Operation Python Dance, and the 2020 Obigbo killings) as evidence of systematic persecution.

He urged Trump to launch an independent inquiry into the alleged atrocities, impose sanctions on implicated Nigerian officials, and press for his release as ordered by Nigerian and Kenyan courts.

“The Nigerian government defied its own judiciary,” he wrote, accusing the authorities of “weaponizing insecurity to demonize IPOB.”

Kanu ended his appeal by invoking faith and freedom: “History will judge us by what we do when genocide knocks. I remain steadfast in peace, faith, and nonviolence.”
