Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated that Nigeria’s security and economy saw notable improvements during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
Speaking at his country home in Daura, Katsina State, while receiving members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Buhari reflected on his administration’s challenges and successes.
He acknowledged that upon assuming office in 2015, Nigeria faced severe security threats, particularly from terrorist groups like Boko Haram, and an economy in crisis. However, he asserted that his government effectively reduced the impact of terrorism and initiated economic strategies that stabilized the country.
“Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015,” the former president said.

Buhari credited his administration’s efforts in equipping security forces and implementing policies that helped mitigate insurgency and improve national security.
Regarding the economy, he argued that despite global economic downturns, including the COVID-19 pandemic, his government implemented measures that prevented a total collapse.
He maintained that his administration laid a solid foundation for economic recovery and growth, emphasizing infrastructure development and anti-corruption measures.
Buhari also admitted that governing Nigeria was a challenging task, citing bureaucratic obstacles that often hindered policy implementation.
However, he remained optimistic that the progress made during his administration would continue to benefit the country, urging Nigerians to remain patient with current leadership.
