– Nigeria is making major strides in local arms manufacturing through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), with recent milestones including the unveiling of the new DG-103 assault rifle, large-scale production of 7.62mm and 9mm ammunition, and development of military gear like patrol vehicles.

The 2025 production push for the DICON-D7G platform has emerged as a key highlight of this drive, which aims to boost the country’s defense independence, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a potential arms exporter to other African nations.

By reducing reliance on foreign military equipment, DICON’s expansion is not only strengthening national security capabilities but also driving economic growth through local manufacturing and skilled employment.

Military officials note that the new DG-103 rifle and other products meet international standards, opening doors for regional trade partnerships.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of building a self-sufficient defense industry that can support both domestic needs and contribute to African security through sustainable, locally-made military solutions.
