Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has claimed that Nigerians are safer under President Bola Tinubu’s administration than in previous years, arguing that major security breaches like prison breaks have stopped since Tinubu assumed office.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on July 30, 2025, Bwala stated that before Tinubu’s presidency, incidents of kidnapping and prison breaks were rampant across the country—even in Abuja.
“Nigerians are superlatively safer today than they were. Before 2023, there were prison breaks everywhere—even here in Abuja. You couldn’t come out; people were being kidnapped in broad daylight. Since President Tinubu came on board, there have been no such incidents,” Bwala said.

He acknowledged that cases of insecurity still exist but described them as “skirmishes,” adding that even developed nations face similar challenges. “If you look at crime records, the number of crimes committed in America in one day is more than in Nigeria,” he argued.
Addressing claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria by U.S. senators led by Ted Cruz, Bwala dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated. He said the report relied on by the senators was produced by a group linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to him, insecurity in Nigeria is not driven by religion. “This is an orchestrated agenda that began after Vice President Kashim Shettima’s speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly,” he said.
