Tragedy has struck the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the death of Edidiong Effiong Okokon, a young Nigerian who passed away just five months after graduating from Teesside University.
Okokon reportedly died on October 17, 2025, after a long and painful battle with a lung disease.
According to information shared by members of the Nigerian community in the UK, Okokon arrived in the country in January 2023 full of hope and excitement to pursue his academic dreams. Sadly, only a few months into his studies, he was diagnosed with a severe lung illness that would eventually claim his life.

Despite his deteriorating health, he remained determined and went on to successfully complete his degree in May 2025. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could reap the fruits of his hard work.

Friends and well-wishers have since launched a fundraising campaign to help repatriate his remains to Nigeria for burial, describing him as a bright, kind, and ambitious young man whose life was cut short too soon.
