Human rights lawyer, advocate, and author of the infamous “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System,” Dele Farotimi, during an interview session, claimed there is no elite class in Nigeria.
The lawyer said what Nigeria is is a “ruinous class” and not elites, and that their actions do not in any way portray eliteness.
Most Nigerians are wealthy; however, elitism is not defined by wealth and money but by good leadership ideals and ideologies, economic impact, and knowledge.

“Don’t use the word elite in relation to Nigerians,” Farotimi responded when the interviewer chipped the notion.
“We don’t have an elite class. We have a ruinous class. Their money, I’m not arguing against the fact that they have money, but having money does not make you elite; it simply makes you monied.
“We don’t have an elite class,” Farotimi reiterated in the short video, which has gone viral.
The video has sparked debates among Nigerians, with many agreeing with Dele Farotimi, while few still think the concept of elitism relates to money and power too.
