Netflix debunks rumors that it has left Nigeria

Rumors have been circulating the internet since December 4 of Netflix’s alleged exit of the Nigeria movie market.

The rumors cited inflation and the country’s economic situation as reason for Netflix’s decision to relinquish Nigeria.

However, a report from the Punch however, says that, Netflix has denied such rumors, restating its commitment in the Nigerian film industry.

“We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our members,” they said in an email sent to the Punch.

It was Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, whose comments about Netflix’s sudden unenthusiasm in an ongoing production, that sparked the rumors that Netflix has left Nigeria.

Netflix arrived Nigeria in 2016 when it co-produced Geneviève Nnaji’s “Lionheart”, and then later it’s first movie Aníkúlápó and Aníkúlápó series by Afolayan.

Since then it has gone ahead to produce several other movies including; Blood Sisters, Shanty Town, King of Boys, Far from Home, Jagun Jagun, Oloture the Journey, Blood Vessel and Ijogbon.
