My Suspension Was a Calculated Move — Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Alleges

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged again that her suspension from the Nigerian Senate on March 6 was planned and politically motivated.

In an interview aired on May 31, 2025, via Adeola Fayehun’s YouTube platform, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the events leading to her suspension as a violation of due process and a deliberate attempt to silence her.

“There’s a false narrative that I disrupted the Senate proceedings over my seat. That’s untrue,” she said. “I raised a matter of privilege under Chapter 4, Item 9b of the Senate Rules — something that should have been addressed immediately.”

She accused Senate President God’swill Akpabio of abruptly halting her motion, ordering her removal from the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms, and instructing the Clerk to draft her suspension letter — all within moments.

“That was not a spontaneous act. It was a calculated move,” she asserted.

The senator also suggested that tensions rose after she resisted what she described as the Senate President’s “unreasonable demands.”

“He has no authority to suspend a senator singlehandedly on the floor. The way he treated me — as if I were beneath him — was illegal and disrespectful. My reaction was to a decision that had clearly been predetermined.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan further revealed that her suspension came just a day after she filed a formal petition against the Senate leadership, alleging abuse of office.

“The so-called ethics report used to justify my suspension was nothing more than a cover-up. I had presented issues that struck a nerve, and they responded by shutting me down,” she said.

She described the move as retaliatory and insisted it was meant to silence her for speaking out against powerful interests.
