A shocking incident occurred on Friday, February 28, 2025, as a group of armed bandits sat and held a meeting with residents of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The meeting, as reported by Sahara Reporters, was held in Kwari village of the said Local Government area, and a peace agreement was reached with the aim of ending violence and insecurity in the region.

The bandits at the end of the meeting are said to have surrendered two AK-47 rifles, and 10 people previously kidnapped were released back to the community and taken to the General Hospital in Jibia for medical assessment.

According to the report, the meeting was facilitated by a group known as the Jibia People’s Forum under the leadership of Alhaji Gide Dahiru, with Sheikh, a former secretary of the Islamic Justice Commission and a judge at the Katsina State Court of Reconciliation, Barrister Ibrahim Sabi’u, pointing out that the negotiations were conducted under Islamic law to ensure lasting peace.

The report also stated that notorious bandit leaders Audu Lankai and Tukur Nigerian were present in the peace meeting, as the bandits, upon requests by the residents to end attacks on Jibia town and its surrounding communities, vowed to cease attacks, protect farmers, respect government laws, and cease cattle rustling and other criminal activities.

Key community leaders, including the Chairman of the Jibia Business Association, Alhaji Sama’ila Mai Maasara, and elder statesman Alhaji Haruna Sada Zare, were present at the reconciliation meeting.
