A 46-year-old Uber driver, Muftau Abiodun Musa, has tragically ended his life in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. Sources close to him attributed his actions to prolonged struggles with depression and pressures from family over marriage.

Reports indicate that Muftau left a note asking whoever found him to use his phone to contact his family and requested that no one should cry over his demise.

He had reportedly been battling depression for over five years, compounded by societal expectations and financial challenges.

In December 2023, Muftau was stopped from hanging himself by neighbors. He also attempted suicide earlier by drinking sniper, leading to a two-month hospital stay.

Afterward, his family moved him to his mother’s home for closer monitoring. However, the ongoing pressure to marry and have children reportedly pushed him to move out.

Muftau relocated to a rented apartment in May 2024, but his struggles persisted. When his lease expired in December, the property owner gave him until January’s end to vacate.

Just days before his death, he was urged to find alternative housing, a development that reportedly exacerbated his distress.

On January 11, 2025, Muftau was found hanging in his rented apartment. The Osun State Police Command has taken over the investigation, while his death has placed a shock on the people of his family, community, and Nigerians at large.
