The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a notorious suspected killer and cult leader, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as “Olori Eso.”
Aged 44, Akinwande was arrested on Friday, June 20, 2025, after years of evading capture. He was described by the police as one of the most feared and wanted criminals in the state’s recent history.
According to Police PRO Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest followed a special operation code-named Silence, Speed, and Surprise, carried out by the Command’s Tactical Squad.

The operation led to the recovery of several weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different people.
The police stated, “On June 20, 2025, operatives of the Command’s Tactical Squad… successfully trailed and arrested Wasiu Akinwande, aka Olori Eso… who, along with his multiple gangs, has been terrorizing the Mushin area of Lagos State and its environs.”
Akinwande was captured in his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after multiple failed attempts.
“His reign of terror instilled fear and apprehension among residents and posed a serious threat to law and order,” the police added.
Four families have already identified him as the killer of their relatives. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a deepened investigation while assuring Lagosians that the command remains committed to public safety.
Akinwande is in custody and will face prosecution. The police have urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity.
