An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Steven Asibi, has recounted the harrowing ordeal of his heavily pregnant wife, Dorathy, who was abducted by kidnappers, forced into labour, and had her newborn taken away.
Speaking with The Punch, Asibi, who hails from Okrika in Rivers State, said Dorathy went missing on February 7, 2025, after leaving their home with only her phone and charger. He last spoke with her via text earlier that day, unaware it would be their final conversation before her abduction.
After multiple failed attempts to reach her, Asibi raised the alarm, checking with neighbours and friends before reporting her disappearance to the police. Initial searches at hospitals and health centres yielded no results.
Three days later, he received a chilling call from an unknown number, demanding ₦24 million as ransom. The kidnappers warned him that he had only 24 hours to comply.

Rejecting their threats, Asibi stood firm, declaring he would not be intimidated into paying. Instead, he reported the ransom demand to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which began tracking the suspects.
On February 12, five days after her disappearance, Dorathy was miraculously found at D-Young Junction, appearing disoriented and covered in dirt. Witnesses said she had arrived in a tricycle and sat in front of a cement shop, staring blankly as though in a trance.
Medical examinations later confirmed that she had undergone forced labour, and her baby was missing. Dorathy recalled entering a taxi with another passenger, only to wake up in the trunk of a car, blindfolded. She was later injected by her captors, who forced her into labour before taking her baby away.
Asibi believes the kidnappers had been monitoring his wife’s pregnancy before abducting her. While thankful for her safe return, he remains devastated over their missing child. The police have launched an investigation, tracking the phone number used to demand the ransom.
As the search for the newborn continues, Asibi has vowed justice will be served, insisting that those responsible will face the consequences of their actions, because he serves a living God.
