The President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump has voiced deep concern over what he described as the growing persecution of Christians in Nigeria, warning that the faith is facing an “existential threat” in the country.

In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump condemned the continued killing of Christians, which he blamed on radical Islamist groups. He urged immediate international attention, saying, “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

Trump said he is designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to the scale of the violence and called on members of the U.S. Congress, including Congressman Riley Moore and Chairman Tom Cole, to investigate the crisis and report back to him.

“When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria, something must be done,” Trump stated, noting that over 3,000 Christians have reportedly been killed in Nigeria this year alone.

The president emphasized that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening” and declared that America remains “ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

Trump’s remarks have reignited global attention on Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly the persistent attacks on Christian communities across the country’s northern and central regions.

When the issue was raised by a U.S. entertainer some weeks ago, prominent Nigerians debunked the claims, saying the issue of insecurity cuts across all parts of the country and affects all religions and tribes.
