The Super Falcons of Nigeria pulled off a sensational comeback on Saturday night to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and lift their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, the most by any team in the tournament’s history.
The match, played at the packed Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, saw the Nigerian ladies overturn a 2-0 first-half deficit in dramatic fashion, with Jennifer Echegini scoring the winner in the 88th minute.
The Moroccans had stunned the Falcons early on. Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a beautiful strike, and Sanaa Mssoudy added a second in the 24th, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to send the home crowd into wild celebration.
But Nigeria refused to be buried.

Coach Justine Madugu’s side came out fired up after the break. Substitutions proved key, with Rinsola Babajide and Echegini injected into the game around the hour mark. Their energy changed everything.
Esther Okoronkwo pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 64th minute after a VAR-reviewed handball. Just six minutes later, she turned provider, squaring the ball for Florence Ijamilusi to tap in the equalizer.
The comeback was complete in the dying minutes when Echegini latched onto a cross from Alozie and slammed it home to break Moroccan hearts and send Nigeria into celebration.
The match ended in 2-3 after an extra time of six minutes, which saw the Nigerian team holding strong and denying the Moroccans any opportunity.
Dignitaries like CAF President Patrice Motsepe and FIFA’s Gianni Infantino watched from the stands as the Falcons reclaimed glory and got sweet revenge for their semi-final loss to Morocco in 2022.
