"Jesus is Not God, He is a Prophet and Messenger of God" - says Banner displayed at Lekki central Mosque

The internet has been put in rift on a claim that seems like a truth to one religious group, but blasphemy to another.

On the fence of the Lekki central Mosque in Lagos State, hangs a banner with the statement, “Jesus is not God, He is a prophet and Messenger of God.”

This statement which is displayed by the Muslim group has evoked not just debate but bitterness among the Christians in Nigeria on all social media platforms.

Christians in Nigeria have condemned the manner at which the statement was made and displayed, labelling it as “blasphemy”.

The rift started when Nigerian actress, Wumi Tuase, came across the banner while driving, and took to her twitter (X) page to express her displeasure saying, “I don’t like to get into religious conversations but I found it very weird that Lekki Central Mosque has this in front of their gate,” and posted a picture of the banner.

The post which soon drew attention from a large number of internet users became a point of debate among the two major religious bodies in Nigeria and even those who do not identify with any religion.

While the Muslim group believes there is nothing wrong with the statement, that it is in fact the truth, the Christians have found it blasphemous and provoking, pointing out that the intolerant Muslims would have taken violent actions if such blasphemy was made against their own beliefs.

Some non-religious folks are of the opinion that the statement made by the Muslim sect is disrespectful of other people’s religion, and is directed towards propagating a foolish agenda.

Somehow, it seems Yoruba Muslims have been the target, since the inscription is in a Yoruba land.

A twitter user @tosinraj, obviously a Muslim, reacted saying;
“This is Lekki Central Mosque gate. A masjid. They post Jesus is servant of Allah that every conscious believes so. But you are triggered as a passerby and brought it on Twitter.
Is either you are dumb or you are basically attention seeker. The last I checked, Jesus is d Quran”

@Omojuwa_adesoji responding to @tosinraj wrote;
“Alot of yoruba muslims are terrorists in disguise, they’re just waiting for sharia law to be passed and you will see their true color, this idiot can not survive in a place like Afghanistan, they can’t practice half of what their Quran preaches.. Hypocrites.”

@Bitterwinch responding to the same post on X said;
“This is why every right thinking Christian must support Isreal to defeat these jihadists. Jews are the only reason Christians still have access to their holy sites because left for mohammedians no Christian will step foot. yoruba muslims are not different btw”

Yoruba has always been known as the center where the two distinct religions co-exist harmoniously. Muslim extremism was always a thing of the Arewas (Northern Nigeria), however, with the recent development, it seems table has been turned.
