The First Lady of Nigeria, wife of Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to victims of violent attacks in Plateau State, describing the gesture as an act of love rather than political motivation.
During a visit to the Government House in Jos on Thursday, the First Lady emphasized that the donation was made through her Renewed Hope Initiative and not drawn from public funds. “I do not have vast sums of money, but what I have is meant to bring life, not to pour money into a basket,” she said. “My love for this country is not political—it’s about how this country has blessed me.”
Mrs. Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the killings and unrest in Plateau, describing her visit as emotional. “I came here first as a mother whose heart bleeds at every report of bloodshed,” she said. “But I pray this will be the last time I respond to such a tragedy here.”

She appealed to Plateau men to rise and protect their communities, recalling how a little girl welcomed her at the airport with fruits, calling Jos “the land of peace and tourism.” Citing the national anthem’s second stanza, she urged leaders to reflect on their legacy and work toward handing over a peaceful land to the next generation.
The First Lady also encouraged traditional rulers to foster peace. “You are the custodians of this land. Officeholders will come and go, but you will remain,” she said.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang thanked her for the generous support, calling her the “mother of the nation.” Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, revealed that the Renewed Hope Initiative has empowered women traders and persons with disabilities across Nigeria—disbursing ₦50 million to each state and ₦200,000 cash grants to 250 disabled individuals per state.
Leaders including the Emir of Wase, Dr. Mohammed Sambo Haruna; COCIN President Dr. Amos Mohzo; and Professor Rahila Gowon praised the First Lady’s compassion and called for continued peace in Plateau.
