Recall that Igbo TV had reported the appointment of a new military chief after Israel eliminated several of Iran’s senior commanders and nuclear scientists on Thursday. The appointments were made public on Saturday via Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s official X channel. Major General Ali Shadmani was promoted and made the Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ.
Israel’s military announced Tuesday it has eliminated Major General Ali Shadmani, describing him as Iran’s “most senior military commander” involved in current hostilities.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Shadmani—who served as wartime chief of staff and oversaw Tehran’s regional operations—played a pivotal role in directing attacks on Israel. The IDF did not release details of where or how the strike occurred, though Israeli media report it was part of a precision raid on a command post near Isfahan. Iranian state outlets have yet to confirm his death.

The conflict’s death toll continues to climb. Iranian health officials say at least 224 people have been killed since Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion” against Iranian military and nuclear sites last week; Israel reports 24 dead after Iran retaliated with missile and drone barrages. Thousands have been displaced in both countries.
International pressure for de-escalation is growing. A joint statement from the Group of Seven (G7) on Monday reaffirmed “Israel’s right to defend itself” but urged both nations to halt further strikes and protect civilians. The G7 also called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, warning that a wider regional war could have “catastrophic” consequences.
China, Turkey, and the European Union echoed the plea for restraint, while U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres told reporters in New York that “the Middle East cannot afford another full-scale war.” The U.N. Security Council is expected to convene an emergency session later this week.
U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his appearance at the G7 summit in Canada to return to Washington, ordering his National Security Council to meet in the Situation Room. “Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, urging Tehran to seek talks “before it’s too late.”
For now, both Iran and Israel show no sign of backing down, leaving diplomats scrambling to prevent further escalation.
