The Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs kicked off the first round in their Best-of-3 Series with a rather interesting fixture on October 26, 2024 at the Fort Lauderdale stadium, as Inter Miami managed to siphon a narrow 2-1 win over Atlanta United. With the MLS Cup in sight, it was quite an edgy contest as both teams looked as determined as ever to coming out on top.
Inter Miami, right after winning the 2024 Supporters’ Shield, took an early lead just two minutes into the game thanks to an early opener from Luis Suarez who was looking to continue his fine form having registered his 22nd goal of the season. Atlanta United, however didn’t go down without a fight with Saba Lobjanidze bringing them level in the 39th minute, before Jordi Alba once again registered the one-goal advantage in the 60th minute, slotting home a beauty after a slick assist from Lionel Messi.

Atlanta United remained relentless still, but Inter Miami’s dominance throughout the game kept the pressure on and that ultimately made the difference. Miami threatened Atlanta’s defense with 22 shots, having 11 on target, and went on to even hitting the post twice.
Match Highlights:
Possession: Inter Miami 60%, Atlanta United 40%.

The second game of the competition will be be kicking off at the Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the pressure will be on the home side to even the series and look to force a decisive Game 3. If Miami clinches another win, they will advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals to face either Orlando City SC or Charlotte FC, but until then, fingers crossed.
