Outrage is still raging about the controversial arrest of social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM), whose arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is now widely criticized as an abduction rather than a lawful arrest.
In one of the recent top trending viral clips, Isaac Fayose called Nigerians to action, pronouncing in unambiguous terms:
“If you sit at home on Tuesday, you don’t deserve to complain about Nigeria again.” The clip uploaded by @Teeniiola on X has fired up additional calls for citizens to take part in civic actions using the trending hashtag #FreeVeryDarkMan.

Senior political figures are also weighing in. Former presidential candidate Peter Obi recently lamented the situation, calling for the immediate release of VDM and stressing the need to uphold human rights and due process.
The sentiment online is increasingly now, “Arrest Yahaya Bello, Free VeryDarkMan.” For many, this represents a symbol of perceived injustice, particularly given the fact that former Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, who faces serious corruption charges, is at large, yet VDM, a voice for the youth, is detained without explanation.
What began as an online fury is rapidly becoming an offline protest, as citizens are preparing to take to the streets in protest of what they see as oppression and suppression of free speech.
