Best graduating Student of Wesley University says Reason for her achievement is Because she refused to have a Boyfriend
During the 13th convocation ceremony of Wesley University in Ondo State, Miss Ifeoluwa Mercy Adeyemi who came out the overall best-graduating student in the 2023/2024 academic session, said her refusing to have a boyfriend is the reason she was able to achieve her academic success.
Miss Adeyemi who is 19-years-old while speaking in an interview revealed that she deliberately rejected the idea of a boyfriend, because it’d be a distraction to her, since she wanted to make her parents proud.
With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.97, miss Adeyemi from the department of Microbiology, was announced by the institution as the overall best graduating student of 2023/2024 academic session.
It was her drive to make her parents proud, that inspired her to focus and shun the idea of a romantic relationship in campus.

For her, such things are a distraction to someone who wants to achieve great academic success, even though she is not against it.
“Well, I had actually discussed this matter with several other people, and they told me that it depends on your own perspective.
“But for me, I see it as a distraction because I cannot divide my mind.
“A boyfriend might be demanding my attention, which would prevent me from putting my total effort into my books.
“At first, I have parents that I cannot disappoint. So this is one thing that keeps coming to my mind. Anytime I found distractions, I would remind myself: your parents are out there, and you need to make them proud,” she said.

Miss Mercy Adeyemi also mentioned her passion to contribute to the health sector, as one of reasons not to take light of her studies, stating that she wants to understand microbiology as a course so she could solve problems in the world, and also make her parents proud.
“I want to solve problems in this world, especially in the health sector. And I have to put more effort into understanding this course, microbiology, because it deals with microorganisms, which are central to diseases and health.
“So I need to focus on it and make my parents proud,” she said.
She also hopes to continue her education up to PhD level, to become a researcher.
