Emeka Nwogu, a 35-year-old resident of Lagos, has recounted how his 25-year-old girlfriend masterminded his attack on February 15, 2025.
They had both spent time together in a hotel on the Valentine’s night of February 14 and had fun together; unbeknownst to Emeka, his girlfriend had planned beforehand with her junior brother and some cult gangs to rob him of his hard-earned money.
The story goes that Emeka and his girlfriend lodged in one of the hotels in Ago Palace Way in Lagos and enjoyed Valentine’s Day together.
The next day, they went to a pub to eat away from the Ago Palace area. After eating, the girlfriend said she was pressed but insisted they must go back to the hotel before she can ease herself.
On their way back, they passed the bus stop to the hotel, which prompted Emeka, however unsuspiciously, to raise concerns, but the girlfriend assured him not to worry.

Upon their arrival at the next bus stop, they were cornered by a group of cult gang members and persuaded to go to an isolated area in an estate. The cultists were armed with local guns and axes.
They tortured Emeka, collected his three phones, and forced him to open his phone and crypto wallet password, where he had over $9700. Transferred all the assets before leaving him in pain from the bruises they inflicted on him.
Emeka and the girlfriend rushed to Ago Police Station and lodged a report, and the police visited the scene. One of the security guards in the estate informed the police that he usually sees the girlfriend, who has been shedding crocodile tears all the while, with one of the gang.
This information prompted the police to arrest the girlfriend and begin an investigation. The girlfriend soon confessed that she masterminded the attack with her younger brother, who is probably a cultist, because she felt her boyfriend had been cheating on her after she came upon his WhatsApp chats.
The case was transferred immediately to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 1. The police traced her home but couldn’t find her brother, who had absconded. N3 million out of the N5 million of her share of the robbery was recovered, or rather, it was returned by her father, who promised to search for his son and bring him in.
Four other members of the gang who identify as Aiye Confraternity members were later arrested after serious investigative efforts by the police. They are Ogbuka Tochukwu, 22; John Wisdom, 25; Odora Michael, 24; and Babatunde Ibrhaim, 20. One locally made gun, four local cartridges, one battle axe belonging to the Aiye confraternity, and N7.5 million cash were recovered from them.
“I spent Valentine’s night with her in a hotel, and we enjoyed ourselves. The following day while we were in a lounge enjoying ourselves, she went out severally after her phone rang. I did not know she was planning to attack me with her brother and cultists and steal my hard-earned money and property. I commend the CP squad for doing a good job,” the traumatized victim, Emeka, told reporters.
