The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) have reported that some unidentified gunmen while on a shooting spree, killed five persons and injured many on Monday 18, November 2024.
The incidence is said to have occurred at around 8 a.m in both Ukpo community in Dunukofia Local Government Area and Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Monday morning where sit-at-homes are being observed turned bloody. As the shooters arrived and started shooting sporadically at residents and vigilantes killing at least four of the vigilante operatives and injuring some others; also setting vehicles on fire.

Among the injured, was the President-General of Abatete community, Chimame Ezigbo, who was rushed to the hospital.
The Police arrived the center of the incident, however, could not apprehend the culprits.
The State Police command through its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said during a press briefing that a manhunt and an investigation has been launched on the attackers.
“Our operatives are currently at the scene”, he said. “The police have launched an investigation into the attacks and working to apprehend the perpetrators… As soon as I get more facts I will get back to you.”
According to some videos that went viral on social media, corpses were laying in a pool of blood; that of a vigilante at Okpu Roundabout and three at Abatete.
