The All Progressives Congress, Rivers State faction headed by its Chairman, Tony Okocha, has asked Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to resign, and failing to do so within 48 hours, would be impeached.
The ongoing tussle for power in Rivers State has shown no signs of ending soon, as none of the parties involved feel they are on the wrong.
Governor Fubara has been accused by the Rivers APC Chairman of undermining the rule of law. During a press release on Monday, he said Fubara has committed several impeachable offenses.
Mr. Okocha accused Fubara of running the state with only 12.5 percent of State Assembly members and also highlighted issues bordering on budget presentation and local government elections.

“Fubara is now sitting on a keg of gunpowder,” the APC Chairman said, noting that he had been warned but refused to hearken.
The Supreme Court, in the last judgment reached, had ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the accountant general of the federation to immediately stop the release of funds from the federation account to Rivers State until an appropriation law was made by the Rivers State assembly.
The apex court also ordered that Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers resume unhindered sittings immediately, with Justice Emmanuel Agim pointing out that Fubara had no justification for distorting the affairs of the assembly.
Governor Fubara is reported to have written a letter, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, to the state’s legislators, inviting them for a meeting after they gave him 48 hours to present the 2025 budget and remove the unscreened commissioners and board members.
The 27 lawmakers led by Martins Amaewhule had resumed sitting on Monday, March 10, 2025, and want Governor Fubara to resign as they make plans for his impeachment if he refuses to resign.
