In a story that has sparked mixed reactions online, a former nun and a Catholic priest in Brazil have tied the knot after falling in love while praying together.
According to O Globo, Lais Dognini, who once lived in a Carmelite convent, met Father Jackson Dognini when he offered to pray for her during her battle with depression. What began as spiritual support gradually blossomed into friendship and, eventually, love.

The couple secretly married in March 2025 but publicly revealed their union on October 7 through an Instagram Story. Both had served the Catholic Church for years before deciding to pursue a different path.

Lais had spent two years in a convent devoted to prayer and service, while Jackson trained for five years in the seminary before leaving the priesthood after deep reflection.
Their bond grew after Lais left the convent to focus on her recovery. Jackson, who initially believed she would return to religious life, began communicating with her regularly, and their friendship deepened over time.

The pair began dating in April 2024, got engaged in October of the same year, and officially married five months later.
“It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it—we’re adults now, and we know what we want in life,” Lais wrote as she shared their love story online.
