The Federal Government has rolled out ₦330 billion in cash transfers to support poor and vulnerable Nigerians under its social protection programme.
Finance Minister Wale Edun announced in Abuja on Monday that the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s plan to ease the impact of subsidy removal and exchange rate reforms on low-income families.
The programme targets 15 million households out of the 19.7 million listed in the National Social Register, representing over 70 million individuals.

“So far, 8.5 million households have received at least one payment of ₦25,000, while others have received two or three. The balance of 7 million households will get theirs before year-end,” Edun said.
He explained that all beneficiaries are verified through their National Identity Numbers (NIN), with transfers made directly to bank accounts or mobile wallets.
NASSCO Coordinator Mrs. Funmi Olotu added that the use of digital payments is to guarantee transparency and end traditional cash handouts. She assured that the staggered process would soon cover every household in the programme.
