A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has been trending on the Nigerian media after she made a video crying and calling out the Tinubu-led administration over the cost of living in the country and how corps members are struggling with the meager allowances they get, which does not reflect the current economic realities.
She recently made another video, where she mentioned that since she made her video, NYSC officials have been calling her, threatening to suspend her for speaking against the government. That she should delete the post.
In the video, she said, “I made a video talking about the Nigerian government. Then I received a call from the NYSC board, from the secretariat, and then the LGI.”
She was asked if she is normal and that she should put down that rubbish, because she is not talking to her mate. However, according to her, she was only asking for accountability.

“At first, I wondered how they got my number, then I realized that the NYSC has all our details due to the form we filled. It is so bad that you can’t speak up about the government because they feel like they have us in chains. I never insulted the president, as she said I did. I just said you’re a terrible president. That is not an insult; it is a statement.
“Why is it ok that I can’t speak up, for something that is directly hurting me? Why is it ok that they would call to threaten me under 24 hours that I made a video? Why can’t Nigerians speak up? Why are they holding us in chains? Why do they feel that everything we do, they have ways to control us?” she said.
“I did not say anything I shouldn’t have said. The Nigerian government is not doing anything about the inflation. I am depressed, and my bank account is going to zero, and I still have to live. I’m asking the Nigerian government to do something about the inflation. I just want you guys to know this is what the NYSC board is doing in case anything happens to me; they have my address,” she added.
The video has soon gone viral, sparking reactions from Nigerians and critics, including the likes of Human Rights lawyer and 2023 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and his colleague, Inibehe Effiong, who have vowed to stand for her if anything happens, saying she has a right to criticize the government.
Some Nigerians have, however, criticized the lady for speaking out, saying she is supposed to obey NYSC rules, while others feel she insulted the president.
