EXCLUSIVE: Tinubu’s Government Allegedly Gifts Each Governor that Joins APC ₦250bn, Senator ₦1bn, Rep Member ₦500m

Fresh controversy has erupted over reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is allegedly bankrolling a massive defection campaign aimed at swelling the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with opposition leaders.

According to an exclusive report by SaharaReporters, the Presidency is accused of offering huge financial incentives to governors and lawmakers willing to switch allegiance to the ruling party. The report claims that each governor who defects to the APC receives ₦250 billion—₦100 billion upfront as a “commitment grant,” and another ₦150 billion after a formal defection ceremony.

Lawmakers are also said to be part of the alleged arrangement, with senators reportedly receiving ₦1 billion each, and House of Representatives members ₦500 million.

The claims come amid a recent wave of defections by prominent governors, including Peter Mbah of Enugu, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, all of whom have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

While announcing his defection in October, Mbah said the move was motivated by “a desire to align with a national vision for development.” Governor Diri, who formally joined the APC in Bayelsa last week, described his decision as one “made in the interest of the people.”

The Presidency has yet to respond to the allegations, which have triggered intense debate over the use of state resources for political gain.
