The Enugu State Government has placed a ₦10 million bounty on the killers of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya, the parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church, Eha-Ndiagu, who was brutally murdered on Friday.

Fr. Eya was shot dead by gunmen along the Eha-Alumona road in Nsukka Local Government Area. His vehicle, riddled with bullet holes and stained with blood, was abandoned in the middle of the road—a sight that left parishioners and residents in deep mourning.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malachy Agbo, the government described the attack as “cowardly and cold-blooded.”

Agbo said Governor Peter Mbah’s administration was deeply saddened by the killing and extended condolences to the late priest’s family, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and the Catholic community at large.

“The security of lives and property remains a top priority,” the statement read. “We will spare no resources—technology, intelligence, or manpower—to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

The government urged anyone with credible information to assist security agencies in their investigation and provided a hotline: 07077451426 for tip-offs.
