EFCC Reveals What They do With all the Funds Recovered From Corrupt Practices

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed how funds recovered from corrupt practices are being reinvested to improve key sectors in Nigeria.

In a recent update, the anti-graft agency revealed that it handed over approximately ₦50 billion recovered in 2023 to the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). The fund has since provided financial support to over 200,000 students across the country, helping them access higher education.

Beyond education, the EFCC noted that part of the recovered funds is being used to establish Credit Corporations aimed at supporting civil servants. These corporations offer low-interest loans—sometimes at single-digit rates—to make borrowing more accessible and affordable for government employees.

According to the EFCC Chairman, this initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that recovered public funds are used for developmental purposes that directly benefit Nigerians. The announcement was made in a video message where he emphasized transparency and accountability in the management of recovered assets.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that looted funds are redirected toward meaningful national development, including education and civil service empowerment.
