Dangote Truck: Dangote Group Responds to Calls Over Truck Driver Accident Pledges Support for Phyna's Family

The Dangote Group has promised full medical and financial support to Ms. Ruth Otabor, Reality TV star Phyna’s sister, who was injured in a recent road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of the company’s cement trucks.

In a statement released on August 14, 2025, the company confirmed that senior officials, alongside its insurance team, visited the accident scene, engaged law enforcement, and met with Ms. Otabor and her family at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

“This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Ms. Ruth, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy,” the statement read.

The company also expressed sympathy to Ms. Ruth and her loved ones, wishing her “a full and speedy recovery.”

Hours after the statement, Dangote Group shared a follow-up post showing members of its team with Mr. Otabor, the victim’s father. The post was met with mixed reactions online.

While some commended the company for taking swift responsibility, others questioned the tone of the well-wishes. One reply, from a user identified as Dr. Penking, read, “Quick recovery to an amputee?” (a comment suggesting that Ms. Ruth’s injury is life-altering).

The Dangote Group has not issued further details about the extent of her injuries, but the company reaffirmed its commitment to covering her medical needs and providing compensation in accordance with its policies.

Igbo TV reported that the said Dangote truck driver that crushed Ms. Ruth’s legs had no driver’s license and pleaded guilty to all charges against him and remains in police custody.
