Sometimes, even the longest kisses eventually come to an end.

A Thai couple who made history with the world’s longest kiss have now parted ways.

Ekkachai Tiranarat and his wife, Laksana, once shared an unbroken kiss for an astonishing 58 hours and 35 minutes, setting a Guinness World Record in 2013. However, despite their record-breaking feat, their relationship eventually came to an end.

Speaking on the BBC Sounds podcast Witness History, Ekkachai reflected on the achievement with pride, even though their marathon kiss was anything but romantic.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he told host Megan Jones. “We spent so much time together, and I try to remember the good memories and the fact that we did this as a team.”

Ekkachai and Laksana were no strangers to endurance kissing contests. In 2011, they had already set a record by kissing for 46 hours and 24 minutes before breaking their own record two years later.

However, the journey to victory was grueling. Ekkachai recalled feeling exhausted and close to fainting, with spectators even handing him an inhaler to help him keep going.

The competition’s strict rules made the experience even more difficult. Couples had to remain standing at all times, were forbidden from using support aids, and were not allowed to wear adult diapers. Even during toilet breaks, their lips had to stay firmly pressed together.

“I was stunned by the rules,” Ekkachai admitted. “Lips had to be touching the entire time, and we had to stay awake throughout. It was incredibly tough.”

Despite the intense challenge, the couple pushed through, eventually outlasting all other competitors. Their victory was sealed when their final rivals raised their hands in surrender on February 14, 2013.

Looking back, Ekkachai admitted that while the triumph was satisfying, exhaustion quickly took over. “The happiness was overshadowed by how tired I was. All I wanted was to rest and have a drink,” he recalled.

Though their record remains unbeaten, Ekkachai and Laksana’s relationship did not withstand the test of time. Yet, Ekkachai remains proud of their shared accomplishment, proving that sometimes, even the longest kisses eventually come to an end.
