Security operatives in Ogun State have arrested two staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a politician over alleged vote-buying in Saturday’s by-election.
The suspects, a male and female INEC staff, were reportedly apprehended at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, after intelligence linked them to a syndicate working to compromise the polls.
A viral video circulating online shows the alleged INEC officials and some political operatives squatting on the floor while being questioned by security agents. The interrogators accused them of receiving large sums of money from party officials to influence the outcome of the election.

This incident comes amid wider reports of electoral malpractice across parts of the country. In Kaduna State, tensions flared on Friday when unidentified men, claiming to be operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and police, stormed a hotel where INEC ad-hoc staff were lodged with sensitive materials.
Witnesses alleged that the men seized an official INEC van containing ballot papers and funds for polling agents before towing it away to an unknown location.
A woman who raised alarm in a video alleged the attackers were backed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to her, the vehicle was later returned under suspicious circumstances, heightening fears that the materials might have been tampered with.
“These acts show the level of desperation to rig elections,” she said, warning that the integrity of the process was at risk.
