The Oromoni family has shared funeral details for Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student who died from alleged bullying by fellow students in November 2021. Her burial will take place on Friday, 9 August 2025, at the family compound in Warri, Delta State.
Mrs. Oromoni passed away in November 2024, ten months after her son was finally laid to rest. She reportedly suffered from severe depression and hypertension, conditions that worsened following the prolonged grief and legal battle after Sylvester’s death.

Sylvester’s death caused an uproar in the country after news carried that he was beaten and forced to consume a toxic substance by senior students at Dowen College. The school, however, claimed he was injured during football practice. The case dragged on for nearly two years, with initial autopsies suggesting poisoning. A later coroner’s inquest ruled Sylvester died from sepsis, and no student was charged.

The family delayed Sylvester’s burial for over two years in protest but eventually laid him to rest in January 2024 in Warri. His mother’s death soon followed, marking another tragic chapter for the family.
Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni’s funeral will include a night of tribute on 7 August, with the burial ceremony scheduled for 9 August at their Kumagbe Estate home, followed by reception festivities.
